Luke Ellards Mazda RX7

Luke had a bit of bad luck with his RX7, With Teeside BDC round 1 approaching the car was far from working correctly. On the Monday he was on his way to Milton Keynes to pick up a new engine, Tuesday was spent putting the engine in, Wednesday night was spent trying to get the map from his Power FC pro on to a normal Power FC and then the car was brought to us Thursday dinner time not running and needing some TLC by the bald man. with a fresh set of plugs and a lot of tinkering the car was running at least by late on the Thursday night for the guys from A40 Garage to drive the mamouth drive to Teeside. Unfortunately even with our hard work the car didn't get chance to compete at round 1 where the car has now been brought back down to us. First things to start off the car the car would not start, checking through everything on the car we found several breaks in the wiring loom and with what had gone on with it in the past it was the best option to replace the loom. The turbo had been oversped and scored the bearing so that was removed and sent of to Graham at Universal Turbos for a refresh before coming back here to be refitted. once all the loom was done and turbo back on it was time to fire it up. Before starting we connected a fuel pressure gauge up to find that fuel pressure was dropping off steadily as the car was cranked over. Fuel pump now removed and inspected to find it had indeed given up the ghost so with a new pump installed he car is now as I type being started up in the workshop before the pre dyno checks are being completed.

Once we got the car on the dyno giving it several runs we were getting detonation, even with a standard base map and 7psi of boost! One run it would be fine with no detonation then 2 more runs would have when nothing had been altered! So with the aid of Steve's very own RX7 parts were kindly loaned to Lukes including coil packs, HT leads and injectors to name but a few but with all that in place, the car ran like a dream and made 400bhp and with the weight of this car I can tell you its an absolute flying machine!

With that Luke was off to Norfolk for round 2 of the BDC
